Commissioning is the step where an installation is proven, named and handed over. Skipping it can leave a system that technically turns on but is difficult to operate or support.
Verify every installed device
Confirm the expected cameras, access points, switches, phones or other devices are online and correctly identified.
Test the intended user workflow
A camera should record and play back; remote access should work for the authorized customer; phones should place and receive calls; network devices should reach the services they depend on.
Record equipment and locations
Capture model, serial or device identifiers where appropriate, along with human-readable names such as “North Gate” or “Shop AP.”
Document exceptions
If a customer declines a recommended upgrade, a cable route is constrained, or a third-party service remains pending, record it instead of allowing the limitation to become a future mystery.
Complete the handoff
Provide access instructions, support contacts, warranty context and any maintenance expectations. Remove installer-only access that is no longer required.
Frequently asked questions
What is commissioning?
It is the final testing, configuration, naming and verification that proves the installed system works as intended.
Why record serial numbers?
They can help with warranty, RMA, inventory and future service.
Should installer passwords be left on the system?
Only authorized access that is required for ongoing support should remain, and ownership/credentials should be clearly controlled by the customer and service agreement.
Turn the guide into a project plan.
Ready Tech can review the property, existing equipment and intended outcome, then build the installation scope around the real site.
